Questions and more questions

What can we do about the regional feeling taking roots in the mind of us, the Indians?

Are we one because we live in a geographically identified territory called India or are we one bound by a rich cultural heritage?

We seem to have forgotten that we sought independence for the whole country. We didn’t seek for any specific region. Therefore the problems that we are facing are also of the country and not of any region. Then why are we regionalizing them?

Similarly, the problems are also not of people belonging to any specific religion, caste or such. They are of the country.

Why do our leaders not try to win over the faith and support of Indians rather than of people belonging to a specific religion, region, caste and things like these. We have remained divided in the past but that does not mean that we endeavour to go back in time.

Why we Indians have so much of anger in our hearts that for the most flimsy of reasons we become destructive and go with a vengeance against our own lives and properties?

Why we Indians do not try to ignore all the divisive forces emanating from any quarters?

Human Rights2

Survival of the fittest is a truth. And a truth is that which does not change with time.

The rights are those that the fittest describe. Therefore, the lesser people (and all creatures) can not do so. In other words rights of the lesser creature to survive, to own property, and such, can not be protected till they themselves become fittest (or at least fit enough to keep themselves protected).

Therefore, it is futile for the third parties to attempt to protect the rights of the tribal, the poor agriculture based people, and the various species. They are bound to perish or remain in protected areas provided by the fittest specie for their own entertainment like, pets, animals in zoo or protected forests. The attempts like human rights organizations are nothing but a selfish enterprise of those who want to be visible and therefore they put up a façade. In reality they are least concerned about those whose rights they talk about.

The struggle of the lesser ones can be successful if and only if they rise up and become fitter by learning to combat with the same weapons their adversaries are using, wealth, education and strategies. They will have to leave living the way the lived and find out on their own better and more sustainable ways of life. They will have to exploit the wealth wherever it is available, over-ground or underground, thinking only of the present and have no concern of the future, because, now a days, these are the rules of the game. If they do not, then others will definitely come in sooner or later. Nothing can stop it.

Allopathic Medication

I eat prescription allopathic medicine for high blood pressure. Similarly many people take allopathic medicine for different ailments.

Today while whiling away time sitting idle I got appalled thinking why do we knowingly eat medicines which are poisonous or harmful for a healthy body? If an antibiotic taken by a healthy person can make him sick why will it not do the same to an ailing unhealthy person? If a steroid will damage some healthy organs in the body why should it be taken?

I am not a very knowledgeable person therefore I can not give many examples. But, we all know that eating poison will always harm. So, why eat it?

Further, I am gradually getting convinced that all researches going on in the field of drugs and medicine are focusing in finding maintenance drugs and not cures. It is surprising that while science has taken giant leaps it has failed to find cures for common ailments like blood pressure, diabetes, asthma and so on. Yes! people have found maintenance drugs for many which the patients have to take lifelong and most of these are harmful to healthy persons. As a result people taking these medicines for one ailment land themselves with other serious defects needing further medication to develop yet more problems.

Can advising people to inflict harm on themselves be called criminal?

Journalism:

Every day when I read or view television I am shocked! A feeling that I do not relish nor do I think most of us do. Why then almost all ‘reports’ are so ominous? Naturally, because the world is full of gloomy things. Sometimes however, I get to read/see brighter things as well, but normally not highlighted and kept in a corner. As if it is a shameful thing and better be concealed. Since honest journalism demands that is why it is being reported.

There may be another reason – things that are normal, and all good things are normal, do not need reporting. It is the exception, the abnormal which needs attention of the mass and therefore, those must be reported. If it is so then I have no reason to feel bad. Though the media is full of ominous things the world is not.

Some wise man had said “seek and you will find”. So I infer that our journalists seek the gloomy and therefore they find it. Once found it has to be reported. When reported it is also read. Repeatedly reading such things leave indelible impressions. Such impressions then convert people and more evil minded are created. I am afraid that there will come a day when the “normal” would become “exception”. Or is the day already here?

Reservation

Constant mention, by our great (?) leaders, representatives of people and simultaneously by the most independent (?) and vocal media, of the problem of reservation and of inclusion of castes and races in the categories enjoying the benefits of reservation finally did succeed in educating a person like me, low in learning, low in IQ, low in everything that fall under this category. So much so, that an idea started germinating in the least fertile mind like mine.

First it struck me that our leaders are extremely concerned and worried about “upliftment” of the deprived section of our population. As a result and to quickly cure this ailment, they thought of forcing doles down the throats of deprived people. This was provided in our constitution (I hope but I am not sure) in the form of reservation of positions in educational institutions, in government services of all sorts not excluding those positions where inefficiencies may result in catastrophe. They identified four categories of deprived people namely Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Backward Class (BC) and Other Backward Class (OBC) and categorized numerous existing castes and races in these categories. This process has now been going on for over last fifty years. You know we have innumerable castes and races living in the country.

I do not know the definition of democracy but in our land we have three parties in it namely, the people, the leaders and the government. Each one from time to time finds a caste or race to be included in any of the four categories. Wait, not just like that. Each of the identifications creates chaos throughout the country. After several demonstrations, disruptions, destruction of public properties, loss of lives, arson, strikes, and such minor incidences, a solution is arrived at. Repetitiveness of this sequence of incidences in fact sowed the seed which germinated in my mind and bore the following fruit (solution).

Let the four categories remain as they are and since we are a democratic country allow every citizen to choose a category of his liking and include him in that. And again, since we are a democratic country, every citizen should be allowed to change his category as and when one desires.

I assure you all the problems arising out of reservation will get solved in one stroke. Furthermore, it will in very near future lead to every citizen falling in just one category. Then this category may be named as INDIANS, of course, if all agree!

Hold on! Not so fast. What will happen to the Ahamias (Assamese), Bengalis, Biharis, UPItes, Haryanvis, Punjabis, Odiyas, Telugus, Tamils, Gujaratis, Marathis, Malayalis, Kannads, Pahadis and others? And who are the INDIANS?

Well! I am not the only one to think as well as solve all the problems. Let some one else do it.

The Time has Changed

It is often said, “The time has changed”. What does this mean? If we are referring to passage of time, it is true. We do not ever remain in the moment we were a moment ago. But, this is not normally meant by the expression. What is meant is that the social norms and values have changed, the behaviour pattern of people has changed, the ways of expression have changed, the words have changed, the meanings of old words have also changed, etc. etc.. It is never meant that the time has changed, the technologies have changed, the economic condition has changed, the consumption pattern has changed, some laws of physics have changed, medical science has changed, etc. etc..

Very few people complain about the latter types of changes but many voices are heard criticizing the former lot. And who are the ones who complain? The same people, who allowed or sanctioned these changes. When this is pointed out to them they have a very strong argument, they invariably say, “We had to allow or sanction ‘that’ because you know ‘The time has changed’ how can we live in the past?

What they mean is that with passage of time each one of us became so weak and spineless that neither we could live a disciplined life nor we had the guts to force discipline on our children. As a result our following generation went on degenerating. All prevailing evils are allowed and sanctioned by us and we blame ‘time’ for this. What a perverse logic of a degenerated mind!!!!

An Appeal

Bliss, I do not know what it is but I believe it to be a state where one is in a perpetual state of contentment, happiness and such.

To reach this state is every ones goal. This calls for knowledge of the path to follow. Only that some one, who has already followed the path and reached the state of bliss, can impart this knowledge. Where is such a teacher?

Why all self-proclaimed teachers claiming to impart such knowledge seem to me commercially motivated or hankering for fame. Most of them are engaged in gathering followers, building institutions, are media hungry, selling their knowledge for money and are impermanent (i.e. short life-ed nothing except truth is permanent). They, therefore, do not see that their knowledge (?) is mostly needed by creatures living in miseries, are deprived, ignorant, oppressed and what not! But then, these creatures also are have-nots, no money to lavish on the knowledgeable teachers and have no resources to make them famous.

India appears to have emerged as one producing more number of such teachers than any other country right from the time of Gautam Buddh. Can I put Buddh in the above category? Nonsense!!! But look at the modern day teachers. Are they comparable to Buddh?

Loud and clear calls for such teachers, who claim to help alleviate human miseries I think, are coming from places like India itself, Africa, Vietnam, etc.

My folded hands prayer to them "Please listen to them".

Knowledge

It is said that ignorance is bliss! It then follows that knowledge is the opposite.

Should we believe this?

Well I roam around and see people with different levels of knowledge and in different levels of economic status. Also I find people having varying levels of happiness, contentment, worries, miseries, and so on. The general impression that I gather is quite revealing to me.

The people with lesser degree of knowledge are again generally in a happy state of mind. Their worries, if they have any, are minor in nature. As a result they are contented and therefore, are able to laugh and sleep better. They may not be in the state of bliss but are the present day knowledgeable people in that state? Would they not want just to laugh and sleep as the less knowledgeables are doing?

Is it then that knowledge deprives people of the ability to easily laugh and peacefully fall asleep? If so, it would then emerges that knowledge is the one which creates miseries of all types. And therefore, any sane person would say knowledge is evil. Wrong!!!!

Faulty knowledge is evil. The one which is making people more ignorant. The one which is depriving people of the wisdom he is naturally born with and would naturally develop with age. This, all other creatures are wise enough to understand except we human beings.

All non-human creatures know how to live with the Nature and not how to live off-with the Nature. Therefore, the day we learn to live with the Nature we will experience the "bliss" we are so intensely looking for. So, should not our endeavour be to gather that knowledge?

Wisdom?

I for the last about 70 years, period of my living memory, have had the greatest regard, respect and adoration for my father and my mother. I do not remember any moment when they expressed their love towards me yet somewhere deep down in my heart I always felt that they loved me. Yes, I remember several occasions when my father punished me for my mistakes, my naughtiness or misconduct. And mind you those punishments were in no way mild yet they never affected my feelings towards him. He was and remained like a God to me.

Why is it so?

He did not have access to any of the great books such as “How to say it” written by greats like Dr. Paul Coleman and Richard Heyman, Ed. D. Which luckily I have in my hand since yesterday. This book has opened my eyes and I am now able to find the mistakes committed by my parents.

I lost my God!

Children

My daughter has gifted a Nikon D40 with a 18-55mm and a 55-200mm lenses when I am approaching 70. This is called pamparring parents. She had earlier gifted a Canon G3 which is giving good service. But she wants her father to take photographs of the birds as beautiful as she saw taken by a Flickr memeber.
I am thrilled not only by the camera but by the attitude of my daughters. Why do we think that our children do not want to take care of us? Both my daughters and their husbands have been so nice to me that I can not imagin children ignoring elders. I am also a lucky father!!
God Bless Them.

Individual Independence

I hear a lot about individual’s independence like “I am independent” or “I don’t want to be dependent on any body” or “My independence is very important to me I do not want to lose it” so on and so forth.
It forced me to wonder what is this independence people are talking about? Because, I have never been able to understand how a person can be independent and also live in a society, howsoever liberal.
Right from the time I take birth I become a bounded slave and remain so till I breathe my last. Day after day, I get trained to act like a good slave. Any deviation and I get reprimanded. Ultimately, I get programmed to act like a slave and believe to be an independent person. Not a single act of mine is of my own volition.
Each act of mine is either dictated by laid down rules of the society or requested by another person or forced upon me by my selfish desire. So how do I claim to be independent?

Right and wrong

Weird thoughts come to mind. It occurred very forcefully to me that majority find doing wrong or things forbidden more glamorous than doing the right things.

Human Rights

Why do I hear so much about human rights and not about human duties?

Natural vs Industrial

Anything available directly from nature seems to have been declared unfit for human consumption. The packaging does not disclose ingredients, nor does it say anything about the calorific value etc.. Moreover, there is no effort or attempt on the part of the producer to show or prove that the product has been scientifically tested under lab conditions and found safe for human consumption. There is total lack of statistics published anywhere else as well.

Therefore, an industrially modified natural product or processed food item is better for human consumption. It has more of known beneficial salts, minerals and whatnots as added ingredients than nature ever thought of including. All the necessary statistics are given on the packaging to prove its fitness. In addition, host of promotional written and audio-visual materials are available on each modified natural produce to placate anybody who entertains a doubt about the product.

Furthermore, it brings higher returns to the producer while giving more value, for the price paid, to the consumer. WIN-WIN!!!!
